Wreck Bay - Exploring the Township

The township at Wreck Bay is beautiful.  The streets are paved in cobblestones and the buildings are in Spanish style.  There are more dive shops than you can count and cafes and restaurants line the waterfront.

We take a walk to the next bay, where we find a university.  We chat to one of the students who are on exchange from the US, studying biology, of course.  Students hang out on the beach and play volleyball, right on the university’s doorstep.

Further on we find the Interpretation Centre where we are given a lesson on Galapagos history and Darwinism.  It was in the Galapagos where Darwin first came up with the theory of evolution.  Confronted with the existence of distinct species that seemed to have originated from a common ancestor, Darwin theorised “that the world was not created in one instant, but rather evolved, through natural selection, from something infinitely primitive and still changing”.

We are looking forward to an Island tour tomorrow where we can see the wildlife that inspired Darwin.
